Straightforward advice on water softeners, hard water, and getting the most from your Notric system.
Is softened water safe to drink?
Yes, softened water is safe to drink for most people. The ion exchange process replaces calcium and magnesium with a small amount of sodium. The amount of sodium added is very low — roughly a fifth of the sodium found in semi-skimmed milk, according to British Water. However, there are two exceptions: infant formula should not be made with softened water (as it already contains the right sodium balance), and anyone on a medically prescribed low-sodium diet should consult their doctor first.
